“She Builds” Panel Zeroes in on Brooklyn

More than 100 industry professionals gathered for the second event in the Fordham Real Estate Institute’s “She Builds” breakfast series. Held recently at the Williamsburg Hotel, “She Builds: Slaying Dragons in Brooklyn” featured a panel discussion moderated by L&L MAG CEO MaryAnne Gilmartin.

One of the morning’s hottest topics was whether Amazon would still be on track for a New York headquarters if Brooklyn were the location rather than Queens. Gilmartin opined that the narrative about the project’s tax incentives was “mishandled.”

Added panelist Ofer Cohen, founder of TerraCRG, “Brooklyn would have had much better cheerleaders than Long Island City did. Williamsburg is the hub for Millennials. If Amazon had considered downtown Brooklyn, we would have gotten it. People here are supportive of what will help the economy.”

Other panelists included Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner’s Sonia Kaur Bain, Community Preservation Corp.’s Sadie McKeown and Heritage Equity Partners’ Toby Moskovits.
