Second Microhospital Coming to El Paso
The Hospitals of Providence, in partnership with developer Emerus Holdings, has broken ground on El Paso’s second microhospital. The $18 million, 40,000-square-foot hospital and medical offices are being built on the 11300 block of McCombs Street in northeast El Paso. It’s expected to open in fall 2018.
The microhospital will have an emergency room with eight exam rooms, and eight inpatient rooms for patients who might require overnight observation or short hospital stays. It will also have an on-site lab, pharmacy and imaging equipment.
El Paso’s first microhospital opened in September 2017 in Horizon City. Kurt Gross, Providence’s director of communications and marketing, told the El Paso Times that the Horizon City microhospital is busier than what was anticipated.
Microhospitals are a cross between a free-standing emergency room, and a regular hospital.
