Second Avenue Subway Opens
The new Second Avenue Subway opened on time, and has already survived its first rush hour commute.
“After nearly a century, the Second Avenue Subway is no longer a dream that only a few still believe is possible,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The first three stations of the new Second Avenue Subway opened New Year’s Day, at a total cost of $4.5 billion. For now, the new stations are spotlessly clean.
The new subway is a huge benefit to neighborhoods like Yorkville, on the far East end of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The next phase will extend the subway to East Harlem. Hopefully it won’t take another 100 years.
