SEC Steps Toward New Headquarters with a 1M-SF Lease

Douglas Development and partner Midtown Equities have signed the Securities and Exchange Commission in a 1,229,345-rentable-square-foot, 15-year lease in Washington, DC. The property at 60 New York Ave., NE, is within walking distance of NoMa-Gallaudet University Metro Station and will serve as the SEC’s new headquarters.

“Our vision to redevelop this expansive, free-standing site began 30 years ago when we first purchased the land, and it’s exciting to finally see it come to fruition,” said Norman Jemal, managing principal of Douglas Development. “We worked with a world-class tenant in GSA and believe this project will be a catalyst for the continued growth and opportunity for the surrounding community that is north of New York Avenue.”

Douglas Development will lead the development of the project, which includes an additional opportunity of more than 600,000 square feet of office space or 600 residential units, or a combination of the two.
