Seattle’s Historic Louisa Hotel Re-born as Apartments
A partnership between the Woo Family and Gaard Development is set to open the historic Louisa Hotel as an 84-unit multifamily property in Seattle. The redeveloped 110-year-old building, located at South King Street and Seventh Avenue in the Chinatown International District, targets workforce housing renters earning between $35,000 and $85,000 annually.
The reception for the apartments has been strong, with all but a few units already rented. It has been 50 years since anyone has stayed at the property.
Many of the items from the property’s colorful past – including tables, murals and signs – have been incorporated into the new building. Owner Tanya Woo told the Seattle Times, “History is reflected in every part of this building.” Her father, Paul, bought the building in 1963 and opened the Mon Hei.
In addition to the residences, a Korean barbecue restaurant plans to locate in a former restaurant space, and an ice cream shop will occupy a street-level space.
The Connect Apartments Conference will take place this week (June 20) in Los Angeles. For more information, or to register, click here.
