Seattle, Portland Capture Crane Title Over San Francisco, Los Angeles

The Pacific Northwest bumped off the Golden State from its perch atop Rider Levett Bucknall’s (RLB) biannual construction crane index. Seattle and Portland, with 79 cranes, edged out San Francisco and Los Angeles, with 72, for the crown in the July tally.
Seattle’s count dropped to 49 cranes from its total in January of 59 cranes, though it still tied for No. 1. Los Angeles also had 49 cranes, followed by Portland (pictured) with 30. The next cities on the list, Chicago and New York, each had 27 cranes and San Francisco had 23 cranes.
Toronto earned the top spot in North America, with 120 cranes on the July index. That’s up from 104 cranes on the January index.
RLB tracks the number of operating tower cranes in 13 major cities across the U.S. and Canada.
