Seattle Mass Timber Apartments Hit the Market

Designed by architect Atelier Jones, Heartwood, an eight-story, cross-laminated timber Seattle apartment building, has been listed for sale.

Heartwood is a 67,000-sqaure-foot apartment building, with designated units for families making 60-100% of Seattle’s Area Median Income (AMI). The 126-unit development at 1323 E. Union St. is made from a mass timber product made from carbon-sequestering renewable wood, reported the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Using a hybrid of mass timber and steel construction, Heartwood is the first project of its kind under the “U.S. Type IV-C timber codes,” according to Kidder Mathews, which Heartwood developer Community Roots Housing (CRH) selected to market the asset for sale. Kidder listed Heartwood unpriced, while the property’s assessed value is nearly $28.1 million.
