Sears Confirms San Mateo Closure Date
Sears Holdings has confirmed an April closing for its 205,000-square-foot San Mateo department store at Hillsdale Shopping Center. Bohannon Development Co., owner of the mall, wants to replace the Sears store as part its planned 12.5-acre, open-air lifestyle center-style remodel, that features a theater, bowling alley, shops and restaurants.
The project is slated to be reviewed at the San Mateo Planning Commission early next month.
An impediment to Bohannon’s redevelopment plans was uncertainty about when Sears would close its Hillsdale store, at one of Northern California’s oldest malls. The news follows other recent store closing announcements, including Walmart, J.C. Penney and Macy’s, to name a few.
