Sears Closing Another 63 Stores
Hoffman Estates, IL-based Sears Holdings plans to close 63 more Kmart and Sears stores as part of a larger, ongoing effort to right size its store footprint in number and size. The retailer continues to close some unprofitable stores, the latest includes 45 Kmart stores and 18 Sears stores slated to be shuttered in late January 2018.
The latest closings add to more than 300 stores that have been shuttered or are planned to close as part of the retailer’s bid to curb losses. The company operates roughly 1,250 Sears and Kmart locations.
The affected eligible employees will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at local area Kmart or Sears stores. Liquidation sales will begin as early as November 9.
