SDSU Selects Developer for Mission Valley Affordable Community

San Diego State University has selected affordable housing developer Chelsea Investment Corporation to construct the first income-restricted multifamily community at the University’s Mission Valley Campus. The firm plans to build a 182-unit complex with units reserved for families making 30% to 60% AMI.

Located within walking distance of Snapdragon Stadium, the development will offer one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units in a seven-story building that features a two-level parking garage. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, amenities will include a community room, computer lab and a child care facility to be operated by Episcopal Community Services.

The contract with SDSU allows for Chelsea to build a second phase with 109 subsidized residential units if the first phase is successful. Chelsea president Cheri Hoffman said in a statement that the for-profit firm was honored to be selected and the project will be an asset to the community for years to come. The development is expected to break ground in 2025.
