SDSU Makes $68M Offer on Mission Valley Stadium Site

San Diego State University wants to buy 132 acres of Mission Valley land that also holds the former home to the NFL’s Chargers. University leaders offered to pay the city $68.2 million for the site, in a package deal that could increase to more than $150 million.

The value would go up when including $30 million for a 34-acre river park, as well as $22 million for the Fenton Parkway Bridge. SDSU would also be responsible for operating costs associated with running the existing stadium.

SDSU’s Adela de la Torre was quoted in the San Diego Union-Tribune as saying, “Today, we have thoughtfully considered our public mission and the broader community needs in bringing our purchase offer to you. This offer represents not only fair market value, but a fair and equitable price to the tax-paying public we both represent and support.”

San Diego city staff will review the offer and hopes to provide an update within a month.
