SDSU Locks Down $350M in Mission Valley Funding

San Diego State University has secured $350 million in funding for the Mission Valley development plan, with a unanimous approval from the 25-member California State University Board of Trustees for the university’s plan featuring a new football stadium.

The approval funds the stadium land acquisition from the City of San Diego, set at nearly $88 million, and early phase construction costs, including the stadium component. SDSU can now finalize land acquisition for the new 35,000-person capacity stadium in time for the 2022 college football season, although an original acquisition deadline of March 27 now looks as if it will be pushed back.

Beyond the stadium, SDSU’s plan calls for 4,600 residential units (with 10 percent subsidized units), 80 acres of parks and open space, 1.6 million square feet of office and research space, 400 hotel rooms, 95,000 square feet of campus retail, and 13,192 parking spaces.
