SDSU Eyes 47 Acres at the Q Site
San Diego State University (SDSU) is seeking 47 acres at the Qualcomm Stadium site in San Diego’s Mission Valley to develop its own stadium and academic facilities. The university would either acquire or lease the land from the city, where it envisions building a $150-million football stadium within three years.
The SDSU plan includes 12 acres for a 35,000-seat Aztec stadium, 35 acres for future university campus expansion, and 10,800 parking spaces.
SDSU’s proposal is in response to a ballot initiative now underway that envisions converting the 230-acre site into a $1-billion SoccerCity plan, as well as another redevelopment proposal by San Diego’s Manchester Financial Group.
The city could decide to bring together entities involved in the various proposals to find ways to work collaboratively on future development.
