Service Corp shoring up future Houston HQ

SCI Closing in on New Houston HQ

The previous building on the property was washed out in 2017 as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The former site of KHOU television was demolished soon after the storm. Now Service Corporation International (NYSE: SCI), one of Houston’s largest publicly traded companies, is implementing a number of flood control measures to ensure that it won’t happen when they build their building.

Service Corporation has been granted a tax reimbursement of $14 million for public infrastructure improvements and storm resilience. The move will allow 900 Houston employees to move into the new headquarters. The new headquarters is slated to cost $150 million. Houston-based Hines is the developer for the project, which is expected to begin construction next year.

SCI is the largest funeral and cemetery services company in North America. SCI had 17,589 full-time employees and 7,550 part-time employees companywide
