Schools, Offices and Apartments at Downtown Brooklyn Mega-Project

April 6, 2017

Alloy Development is planning two more towers in the cluster of giant buildings that cast their shadows on the Barclay Center arena and the Atlantic Terminal rail station.

80 Flatbush Ave. will include 900 apartments, including 200 units of affordable housing, with 40,000 square feet of retail space. That would normally be enough to fill out a large project. But there’s also 200,000 square feet of planned offices and two public schools with room for 700 students. That includes a new home for Khalil Gibran International Academy, an Arabic language public high school.

The mega-project will also turn Khalil Gibran’s old home, historic landmark building, into a 15,000 square-foot cultural space — fitting since it’s roughly 100 yards from the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the BAM cultural district. Alloy expects to start digging foundations in 2019, finishing the first tower in 2022 and the second in 2025.
