School Construction Chief Will Now Head Two Departments

Already head of the New York City School Construction Authority, Lorraine Grillo has been named Commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction, a post she’ll hold while continuing to lead the SCA. Jamie Torres Springer has been named First Deputy Commissioner at DDC.

“Lorraine Grillo is universally admired as someone who gets it done,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “She’s proven it with 75,000 new school seats, and now she is going to prove it on our streets and public buildings.”

Grillo has been with the SCA for over 24 years, beginning as a community relations specialist.

A 20-year veteran of public service, Torres Springer previously served as the lead consultant for the preparation of the Mayor’s OneNYC infrastructure plan. He also served as the Deputy Director of the Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency, as part of the recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy.
