Schlitterbahn Founder Bob Henry Dies
Bob Henry, founder of Schlitterbahn water parks, died at his home in New Braunfels, TX, following a long illness. He was 89. He is survived by wife, Billye Henry, and their three children.
Henry launched the first famed water park in New Braunfels in 1979. Since that time, Schlitterbahn water parks have opened in Corpus Christi, Galveston and South Padre Island in Texas, and in Kansas City, KS.
Born April 23, 1927 in Oklahoma, Henry started his career in accounting, working for Arthur Andersen in Houston. The family eventually moved to New Braunfels and bought the 13-acre parcel in Liberty Avenue, which would eventually be the site of the water park. The New Braunfels location is cited as the world’s best water park.
