San Jose’s Iconic Sainte Claire Hotel Acquired
Aju Hotel Silicon Valley acquired the Westin San Jose from SCH Hotel, an affiliate of Wolff Urban Development, for $64 million. The 171-room property is commonly known as the Sainte Claire hotel, and is located in downtown at 302 S. Market St.
The sales price works out to roughly $374,000-per-room. The property underwent a restoration in 1990, and was renovated again in 2015 and rebranded as The Westin San Jose.
The hexagonal, six-story hotel was built in 1926, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Weeks and Day, the prominent San Francisco architectural firm, designed the hotel.
The Westin San Jose is the second reported acquisition by an Aju unit in the Bay Area. In 2015, an affiliated entity controlled by South Korean-based Aju Hotels and Resorts paid roughly $53 million for the 354-room Holiday Inn at 1350 N. First St. in San Jose.
