San Jose Approves Trio of Downtown Developments

The San Jose City Council has unanimously approved three building projects that would add over 950 apartments and nearly 600,000 square feet of office space to the downtown region. According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the developments will reshape much of the older areas in San Jose’s City Center.

The approved projects include:

-The Orchard, a 30-story mixed-use tower at East San Salvador and 2nd Street in San Jose’s SoFA district. The development, from Westbank and Urban Community, will include 540 residences and over 7,000 square feet of retail space.

-Icon/Echo (pictured), A pair of buildings on E. Santa Clara, N. 4th and E. St. John Streets near City Hall. Developed by Urban Catalyst, Echo is a 27-story tower with 415 residences. Icon is a 24-story office building with 8,500 square feet of retail space.

-SuZaCo, a U-shaped office building ranging from four to six stories at S. 4th and E Santa Clara Streets. Developed by Bayview Development Group, the building will contain 75,000 square feet of commercial space, including 6,300 square feet of retail.
