San Jose Approves 2M-SF Office Project at Former Fry’s Site
Bay West Development, a Silicon Valley-based real estate developer, has gained approval from the City of San Jose to construct a 7-building, 1.9-million-square-foot office project at the former Fry’s Electronics site on Brokaw Road. Features at the project would include amenities that are important to today’s office tenants and employees such as large open spaces, plazas and outdoor work and meeting areas.
The nearly 20-acre site would undergo an extensive remake, as Bay West would raze the Fry’s building, a parking structure and much of the landscaping, before it started work on the eight-story buildings and a 1.6-million-square-foot parking garage.
The City’s Planning Commission noted that the project would provide jobs and a tax base to match the rate of housing development in North San Jose. Like so many other large cities, San Jose has experienced rising vacancy rates and dwindling office developments, so a massive new project, like this one from Bay West, is welcome news for the local economy.
