San Francisco Transbay Transit Center Repairs Scheduled to be Completed in June
Work on San Francisco’s Salesforce Transit Center is set to be completed in June 2019 following repairs to cracked beams at the $2.2 billion facility that were discovered weeks after it opened in September 2018. The Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA), owner and operator of the hub, temporarily closed the facility in September 2018 as a precaution after workers found fissures in two steel beams on the bus deck above Fremont Street.
Workers are repairing beams underneath Fremont Street as well as reinforcing beams above First Street that support the upper bus deck. The steel plate material for the repairs and reinforcement were machined in Pennsylvania and delivered to the steel fabricator, Herrick, in Stockton in March.
The plates were drilled and delivered to the transit center for installation. The project team continues to conduct building-wide inspections to determine if other areas need further review and/or inspections. So far, the TJPA says no additional issues have been found.
