San Francisco ‘Greenest’ CRE Market
San Francisco ranks as the No. 1 greenest CRE market in the U.S. A new study by CBRE Group, Inc. and Maastricht University reveals an increasing trend of green certifications by institutional office owners.
Nearly 74% of space surveyed in San Francisco qualifies as green, according to the latest Green Building Adoption Index. That means it must hold either an EPA ENERGY STAR label, USGBC LEED certification, or both.
Chicago was second on the list, at 72.3%, followed by Minneapolis, which fell from the top spot. Houston, Atlanta and Los Angeles also achieved more than 50% green certification.
CBRE’s David Pogue says, “While the rate of growth in ‘green’ buildings has slowed modestly, our latest study underscores that in most major markets, sustainable office space has become the ‘new normal.’
