San Francisco Airport Launches $2.6B Expansion of Terminal 3
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has launched the $2.6-billion Terminal 3 West Modernization project to renovate the existing 650,000-square-foot western half of Terminal 3, including a seismic retrofit, an expanded security checkpoint and new passenger amenities. The project will also create 200,000 square feet of additional space, allowing for expanded food, beverage and retail concessions. The expanded section is expected to open in fall 2027.
The project is expected to include three gates to accommodate wide-bodied planes; there are none currently. T3 West also includes a seven-story building, scheduled to open in early 2028, that will be used for SFO operational offices along with airport lounges, reported the San Francisco Business Times.
“Our goal is to create an extraordinary airport experience for our guests, leading the way in sustainability and innovation, and we expect this project will once again raise the bar for what travelers can look forward to at SFO,” said SFO airport director Ivar C. Satero.
