San Diego Selected for Second Sesame Place Theme Park

SeaWorld Entertainment and Sesame Workshop plan to open the nation’s second Sesame Place park in San Diego in spring 2021. The 17-acre theme park will open south of SeaWorld San Diego. The site currently is occupied by Aquatica San Diego, a water park slated to close next year, allowing construction of Sesame Street Place to commence.

SeaWorld and Sesame Street are expanding a partnership that included the opening of a Sesame Street section earlier this year in Orlando. Sesame Workshop’s Steve Youngwood notes the brands share common objectives. “The opening of Sesame Place San Diego will give guests a unique and powerful way to experience Sesame Street, enable us to connect with even more families, and further our educational mission,” says Youngwood.

Sesame Place San Diego will open as a Certified Autism Center (CAC). The first Sesame Place theme park opened nearly 40 years ago outside Philadelphia.
