Port Selects Protea for San Diego Seaport Village Assignment
The Port of San Diego selected Protea Property Management, Inc. to manage and operate the 14-acre Seaport Village after the current lease expires on September 30, 2018. The San Diego-based entity is part of the same firm that won the bid to remake the nearly 40-year old shopping and recreation area.
Protea’s plans include completely remaking the village from a collection of quaint cottages into a revitalized waterfront destination with hotels, offices, an aquarium and a 480-foot observation tower. In late 2016, the Port Board picked the 1HWY1 team and its “Seaport San Diego” concept for the $1.2 billion to $1.5 billion redevelopment of the Central Embarcadero, which includes Seaport Village and surrounding areas.
Newport Beach-based TRC previously was the operator of the village, which currently includes roughly 70 specialty retailers and eateries, and on-site parking.
