San Diego Council Approves $160M Religious Resort
San Diego televangelist Morris Cerullo won approval to redevelop into a $160-million religious retreat on 18 acres in San Diego’s Mission Valley. The proposed Legacy International Center project envisions a religious-themed resort and conference center, with replicas of Jerusalem’s Western Wall and rock-wall-lined Roman catacombs.
The facility will serve as a new headquarters for Morris Cerullo World Evangelism, and include event and meeting space for corporate functions. Also planned are a 127-room hotel, and a combined welcome center and museum space with Christian-themed exhibits and massive interactive globe.
The vision for the project anticipated to open in 2019 is reminiscent of an amusement park, with a 500-seat domed motion-seat theater featuring 4-D biblical films produced by Disney Imagineering alums. The property is located on Hotel Circle South, on a site previously occupied by a shuttered 202-room Mission Valley Resort.
