San Diego Convention Center Expansion Detailed
The San Diego Convention Center has two options for expansion, either contiguous space to the existing facility or new, unattached nearby buildings. A consultant hired by the city found that most convention-goers prefer the former option.
Mayor Kevin Faulconer is shooting for the contiguous option and would like to start work on the project next year. Last year, a court denied a $520-million expansion of the convention center.
Conventions, Sports and Leisure International (CSL) was hired to do the survey. It said the contiguous option could add 210,000 square feet of exhibit space, 101,600 square feet of meeting rooms and 55,000 square feet of ballroom additions.
