San Diego Convention Center Addition Stalled
The San Diego Convention Corp. has decided not to acquire six acres next to the center that would have led to its expansion, and some city officials now fear that the work might not take place at all now.
The Convention Corp. defaulted on a final, $13.8-million payment to the owners of the land, Fifth Avenue Landing LLC. Right now there is a $90,000 study under way, though, to look at alternative plans.
Meanwhile, Fifth Avenue Landing has the rights to build hotel with at least 400 rooms on the site.
How vital is the expansion of the San Diego Convention Center?
