San Clemente Outlet Mall to Boost Revenue, Tourism

The first phase of the Outlets at San Clemente, a Craig Realty development, is scheduled to open in October. When it opens, two million visitors a year are expected to travel to the town to shop, and when the final second phase is built, making the center a total of 587,000 square feet with 67 shops, another one million are forecast.

Additionally, Outlets at San Clemente is thought by city officials to bring in about $2 millii a year in tax revenue.

The center is coming when there is plenty of residential development taking place in the beach town. City officials hope that they can use the revenue to enhance certain areas by the beach, but as it is with many large-scale projects, some are worked that an influx of visitors could hurt San Clemente’s laid-back atmosphere.

Do you think an outlet mall would help or hurt the city?
