San Antonio’s Housing Rent Rise

San Antonio’s monthly housing rents are increasing at a sharper rate than those in the state of Texas or the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median monthly rent for occupied housing inside the city limits rose from $748 in 2006-2010 to $856 in 2011-2015, an increase of 14.4%.

Meanwhile, in Texas, monthly rents increased from $786 in 2006-2010 to $882 in 2011-2015, representing a 12.2% increase. In San Antonio, 91.3% of all housing is occupied. Meanwhile, in the Lone Star State, 88.8% of all housing is occupied. The city’s housing market is attracting a larger share of renters than in years past.

The data comes from the Census Bureau’s 2011-2015 American Community Survey Five-Year Estimates.
