San Antonio VIA Development No Longer a “Concept”
San Antonio’s metropolitan transit authority, VIA, has green lighted a “transit-centric community”. The agency has given developers DreamOn Group and Geyser Group, the contract to knock down a row of vacant buildings near the Centro Plaza transit hub, and build offices, apartments and retail in their place. The developers will need to raise $65 million to fulfill the requirements of the contract. Renovations could include approximately 97,500 square feet of residential space and 94,500 square feet of commercial space, including retail, warehouse and offices for use by VIA and other tenants.
VIA paid $5.2 million for the property in 2017 and has been mulling what to do with it since them.
“We’re investing in the area because we believe it’s an area that needs a lot of love and care, and that’s something we believe we can bring to the table with this project,” said DreamOn’s Julissa Carielo. Construction could start in 2024 and be completed in 2026.
