San Antonio Targeted for Tesla Supercharger
Tesla Inc. is planning to put a supercharger kiosk in San Antonio. The local kiosk, to be built at La Plaza Del Norte center near Loop 410 and San Pedro Avenue, will be online by late 2017, while a second station is planned for the Dominion area by late 2018. The supercharger will be capable of charging up to 12 Tesla vehicles. Tesla currently has 30 supercharger stations in Texas, with plans to double that amount by the end of 2018.
In early 2017, Tesla announced plans to double its national supercharger network by later in the year. Because they are engineered differently than other electric vehicles, Teslas require a different type of charging station and plug.
Tesla is planning to add chargers in Fredricksburg, Laredo, Dilley and Falfurrias, TX over the next 12 months. The company will also add the stations in Monterrey and additional destinations in northern Mexico. Teslas make up approximately 42% of the 10,763 electric vehicles in Texas.
