San Antonio Revving up for Tricentennial – with Jobs

San Antonio will be celebrating its 300th birthday in 2018. Even better news for the metro is that approximately 1,300 full-time jobs will be created to help support Tricentennial initiatives. Additionally, the activities should generate wages and benefits of $45 million, and have an overall economic impact of $119 million, according to a study released from the SABER Institute.

The report, prepared by Steven Nivin, outlined the fact that employers will be beefing up their staffs, especially among the hospitality, retail, entertainment and service sectors. Niven estimated that approximately 263,000 people will descend on the Alamo City for Tricentennial celebrations.

Nivin indicated that much of the spending and revenue would be generated from tourism, but said there is a good chance that visitors could become residents, if they like what they see. Millennials, especially, are mobile enough to relocate, assuming San Antonio offers what they want, he added.
