San Antonio Manufacturing Has $40B Impact

The impact of San Antonio manufacturing on the local economy in 2016 was $40.5 billion, making it one of the largest sectors of the economy, according to “San Antonio’s Manufacturing Industry: Economic Impact in 2016.” The report, which was compiled by Trinity University professors Mary Stefl and Richard Butler for the San Antonio Manufacturers Association and San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, also noted that the sector’s economic impact grew 28% in the five-year period ending in 2016.

The previous manufacturing report, issued in 2012, indicated that the contribution was $22.5 billion in 2011.

The area’s workforce increased to 51,904 in 2016, up only a short amount from the 51,026 in 2011. However, total payroll increased from $2.4 billion (2011) to $2.9 billion (2016), a 24% increase.
