San Antonio Makes Offer on Downtown Land, Eye Spurs Mixed-Use Entertainment District
Like many sports franchises, the San Antonio Spurs are would like to develop a mixed-use entertainment and shopping district near their arena. The city has offered $30 million to buy three downtown parcels from the federal government. If the city is successful it could work with the Spurs to develop a mixed-use district at the Hemisfair that a new San Antonio Spurs arena will anchor. County voters approved $310 million in public funds for the area’s development. Besides the arena the team would also like to create an entertainment district including restaurants, bars, retail and hospitality venues.
The office property was deemed surplus by the General Services Administration (GSA) and placed on its accelerated disposition list in 2025. City Council will vote on Jan. 15 to likely approve the move. The city estimates that the GSA would take 90 to 120 days to approve the offer.
