San Antonio Housing Rents on the Rise

The San Antonio housing market is attracting a larger share of renters than in years past. This, in turn, is boosting housing rents at a higher rate than that experienced in Texas or the United States, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The median monthly rent within the San Antonio city limits was $856 during the 2011-2015 period. The metric represents a 14% increase from the median rent of $748, reported for 2006-2010 in the Census’ American Community Survey Five-year Estimates. Occupancy is 91.3%.

Statewide, the median monthly rent rose by 12% to $882. Median rent jumped by 10% to $928, nationally. Even with the upward trend in rents, people are still paying less for housing in and around San Antonio.
