San Antonio Friedrich Lofts to Kick Off This Fall

The most renowned of the group of buildings on San Antonio’s East side still has the Friedrich Refrigerators sign on top of the tallest structure. The long-dormant corner will be coming alive this fall. It’s been sitting vacant since the 70’s.

A group headed up by Provident Realty Advisors is moving forward with the Friedrich Lofts, a 354-unit mixed-rate apartment development adjacent to the building with the famous sign. The investment and planning team also includes The San Antonio Housing Trust and the American South Real Estate Fund. All will all be contributing to the effort.

The $80 million project will provide housing for 50% of residents at 80% of the area’s median income and below. The project is part of a city Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. The participants may be eligible for up to a 75% tax exemption. Adjacent to the apartment community, developers have plans to put in office and retail where the crumbling structures stand.
