San Antonio, Converse Shake on ILA

Connect is coming to Austin! Learn more here.

The San Antonio City Council approved an Inter-Local Agreement (ILA) with the city of Converse. The ILA will triple the town’s size and population during the next two decades, and bring approximately 40,000 people currently living in unincorporated areas of Bexar County into the Converse city limits.

The 17-year agreement also will also grant Converse, a northeastern suburb of San Antonio, undeveloped land it can use to attract residential subdivisions, and highway corridors to spur commercial development. For San Antonio, the agreement means it solves the issue concerning an unincorporated swath on Interstate 10E near Loop 1604, without having to annex it. The area had been bypassed by city councils in the 1980s, and has little economic development, city services or public infrastructure development.
