Salvation Army Launches Two Projects

The Salvation Army Austin Area Command has launched construction on two Austin facilities. One is the 52,800-square-foot Rathgeber Center for Women and Children, a shelter, on Tannenhill Road. The other will be the 17,000-square-foot Austin Citadel Corps Community Center and Area Command Facility, to be located at 4700 Manor Rd., near the Mueller master-planned community.

The shelter will be delivered in two phases. The first, expected to open in May 2018, will offer 40 bedrooms. The second phase will have 23 bedrooms, and should be completed by October 2018. Upon completion, the facility will have a 213-person capacity. The community center is expected to deliver in May 2018, and will provide community outreach, space for administrative functions, a worship chapel and gymnasium.

Costs are being covered through a Salvation Army capital campaign, which raised close to $20 million.
