Saks to Shutter Dallas Neiman Marcus
Neiman Marcus opened its flagship store on Main Street in Dallas over 100 years ago. Saks Global, the owner of the iconic brand, says its time to shutter the famous retail landmark. The store was not busy enough to justify staying open. The Dallas Business Journal reports the company’s store at NorthPark Center does 10 times the sales of the downtown location.
Neiman Marcus opened its first location in downtown Dallas in 1907 and moved to its current location at 1618 Main St. in 1914.
The company also indicated in recent bankruptcy filings that it wanted to retain downtown Dallas properties associated with the store, but later changed its mind. Saks filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2026 after missing a $100 million interest payment in late 2025. The company carries billions in debt related to the $2.7 billion purchase of Neiman Marcus in 2024.
