S. Texas Medical Group to Close, Shutter 27 Locations

Peripheral Vascular Associates (PVA) touted itself as the largest single specialty vascular group in Texas. Founded in 1975, PVA has 27 locations scattered throughout southern Texas.

Now, PVA has informed the Texas Workforce Commission of plans to reduce its workforce. That notification comes as the San Antonio-based practice confirmed with the San Antonio Business Journal that it expects to close multiple offices. A PVA spokesman said the company will need to wind down the business, meaning all the employees and all of its locations are expected to cease operation, likely before the end of the year.

The group was the subject earlier this year of a negative ruling in a Medicare case. A federal court in Texas refused January 9 to set aside a jury verdict finding that defendant Peripheral Vascular Associates, PA (PVA) submitted false claims to Medicare for services that had not yet been performed. It’s not known if the court proceeding precipitated the closing of the business.
