Roxbury Mixed-Income Development Flat 9 at Whittier Celebrates Completion
Flat 9 at Whittier, an affordable family housing project at the former Whittier Street Apartments in Lower Roxbury, has celebrated its completion and broke ground on the final phase of the development. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Mayor Michelle Wu, and other partners attended the event.
Located at 100 Cabot St, Flat 9 at Whittier is a joint effort between Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), Boston Housing Authority (BHA), City of Boston, and Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC) to renovate and reinvigorate the public housing community at Whittier Street Apartments in Roxbury.
The redevelopment includes 316 apartments and substantial new commercial space, creating a mixed-income, mixed-use site. Phase 3 of the development will include 172 apartments and 9,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial retail and shared community space, roof decks, fitness, and other shared community amenities. The project was awarded a $30 million federal Choice Neighborhoods Initiative grant by the Obama Administration.
