Round Rock to Kalahari: Please Spend $350M

Agreements pertaining to the new Kalahari Resorts & Conventions development will be going before the Round Rock (TX) city council members on Dec. 15. The main gist of the agreements is that the company is required to employ 700 people, invest at least $350 million in the development, and build an 975-room hotel and 150,000-square-foot convention center.

When the company announced it would bring a destination hotel, conference center and water park to Round Rock, the cost was estimated at $250 million. The development will sit on more than 351 acres at U.S. 70 and Kenney Fort Boulevard. The city will own the acreage, which will be leased to Kalahari for up to 99 years.

Round Rock sees the Kalahari development as one that will help the city become a tourist destination. Meanwhile, the developer seems to be flexible with its first investment in Texas, and its first major investment in the south.
