Round Rock Gives Kalahari OK to Build

The Round Rock City Council has voted unanimously to approve zoning changes requested by Kalahari Resorts LLC. The changes give the Wisconsin-headquartered entertainment company the green light to begin construction at U.S. 70 and Palm Valley and Keeney Fort Boulevards. Groundbreaking is slated for May 15, 2018, with completion taking place in 2020.

Council approved the rezoning of approximately 340 acres to a planned unit development (PUD), that will allow for certain development allowances outside the usual guidelines. Permitted land uses for the PUD include a resort hotel, convention center, indoor/outdoor water park and family entertainment, pet resort, restaurants and others.

The planned unit development also restricts the maximum height of buildings on the land to 180 feet for buildings more than 750 feet away from the southern property line. Additionally, the PUD applies certain restrictions to noise and light elements, as well as signs to be installed on the property.
