Riverside County Among Nation’s Fastest Growing
The latest demographic data supports what those living in the Inland Empire have already known: new residents are flocking to Riverside and San Bernardino County at high levels. Both neighboring counties doubled the State of California’s population growth rate of 5% in 2018. In fact, Riverside was ranked as the fifth fastest growing county in the nation, adding 33,000 new residents last year.
Researchers at JLL say, these new figures are further evidence of America’s largest county-to-county shift between 2007 and 2011, when 35,000 people moved out of Los Angeles County and into Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
While the affordability crisis in coastal housing markets is partly responsible for driving people eastward, the Inland Empire has also become a major generator of jobs, particularly in the logistics, transportation and warehousing sectors. Many of the cites in the Inland Empire with the greatest population gains—such as Chino—are also seeing a robust amount of warehouse and distribution construction, notes JLL.
