Rival Lab Testing Firms Set Up Partnerships with Wal-Mart & Walgreens

Wal-Mart and Walgreens were among the first retailers to bring healthcare clinics to their stores, and now they will offer laboratory services. Wal-Mart has partnered with Quest Diagnostics, while Walgreens has joined forces with LabCorp.

Wal-Mart and Quest will establish 15 co-branded clinics in stores in Florida and Texas by year-end. Steve Rusckowski, Quest Diagnostics chairman, president and CEO, said the clinics will “make it easier for Walmart customers and their associates to get the quality diagnostic insights they need in convenient locations.”

LabCorp, meanwhile, will operate patient service centers within select Walgreens stores. The centers, co-branded “LabCorp at Walgreens,” will offer lab testing and specimen collection near the pharmacy area.

Currently, 400 Walgreens stores offer retail clinic services, and seven LabCorp at Walgreens locations will open this year in Colorado, Illinois, and North Carolina. Tests on specimens collected at the Walgreens locations will be performed through LabCorp’s nationwide network of primary and specialty laboratories.

David P. King, LabCorp’s chairman and CEO, said: “This significant collaboration will enhance LabCorp’s patient engagement in key markets across the country, and offer increased access to LabCorp’s broad range of laboratory services as we execute our mission to improve health and lives.”
