RFI Released for Potential $120M Development

The G.J. Sutton site at 321 Center St., which has been vacant since 2013 due to structural deficiencies, could be moving closer to renovation. The Texas Facilities Commission and Center for Alternative Finance and Procurement released a request for information regarding development, procurement, financing and delivery potentially totaling $120 million project for the 260,000-square-foot facility.

Prior to 2013, the state-owned Sutton Building housed various state agencies. The facility, which delivered in 1912, became inhabitable, due to warped floors, serious structural problems and an infestation of bats. Discussion on what to do with the building has been ongoing for several years.

A public-private partnership is being considered to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new facility for state employees.
