Revised Design for Obama Center Unveiled
New renderings of the Obama Presidential Center were revealed Monday, representing the third design for the Jackson Park site in as many years. The refined design is intended “to be more organic in form and to appear more elegant and inviting as visitors approach from all directions,” according to a statement by the Obama Foundation.
Crain’s Chicago Business reported that the changes were minor. However, Davis Simas, CEO of the Obama Foundation, said in a statement that a two-acre children’s play area will be added for “the community to enjoy what will become an important and memorable gathering place.”
Other changes are meant to address what critics initially saw as a foreboding and severe design, Crain’s reported. The Center will add an 88-foot glass expanse at the 235-foot-tall tower’s mezzanine level, and the building itself will be made with a faceted stone that will reflect the changing daylight.
