Retail 93% Occupied in Columbus Avenue BID

Within the past 12 months, 18 new stores, services businesses and restaurants have opened in the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District — pushing the percentage of occupied retail spaces in the District up to 93%.

That’s getting close to the District’s all-time high of 100% before of the Great Recession. It’s also much better than the occupancy rate of just 50% in 1999, when the Business Improvement District formed.

“Columbus Avenue is on the upswing again, although we have had our share of vacancies in recent years,” said Barbara Adler, executive director of the District, which runs from W. 67th to 82nd St.

New stores planned for 2017 including accessory retailer Floga, fashion brand Johnny Was, espresso and cocktail bar Da Capo, and children’s fashion brand Jacadi.
