Restrictive Industrial Development Bill Fails to Advance in Sacramento

Restrictive Industrial Development Bill Fails to Advance in Sacramento

California’s Senate Governance & Finance Committee has failed to advance AB 2840, which would have essentially shut down warehouse developments larger than 100,000 square feet in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties within 1,000 feet of any home, school, daycare facility, medical facility, community center, place of worship, playground or jail.

The bill’s failure is a significant victory for the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), whose members sent thousands of emails and made dozens of calls in opposition to AB 2840. The organization says the bill, if passed, would’ve killed jobs, curbed housing, harmed the supply chain and worsened emissions in the Inland Empire.

The story likely is not over however, as the bill’s author, Assemblymember Eloise Reyes who represents Inland Empire District AD47, said she will continue her work on the “issue”, and promised the bill would be back before the legislature.
